Some people think that C is a better language than C++, and may disagree with you on standard library being a "benefit".

If I recall correctly that FQA mostly bitches that C++ isn't Smalltalk, and offers no praise for C.

No, FQA only mentions Smalltalk once in passing: "Lisp, Smalltalk and Forth are examples of languages with almost no syntax."

FQA mostly bitches about how C++ sucks, and comparisons to C are quite frequent.
