This whole kerfuffle made me curious how common it is for a geographic object between two countries to be called by different names and it is surprisingly (at least to me) common!

Examples include:

River through India and Bangladesh (Ganges)

Body of water between Britain and France (English Channel)

Gulf between Iran and Arabian Peninsula (Iran and Intl. Community: Persian Gulf; Many Arab countries: Arabian Gulf)

Moutain on China-North Korea border. (China: Long White Mountain; N Korea: White-Head Mountain)

River forming part of China-North Korea border

River forming part of China-Russia border

Sea between Korean and Japan

Islands controlled by Japan, claimed by China

Islands controlled by South Korea, claimed by Japan

Islands controlled by Russia, claimed by Japan

My favorite is Germany itself. Every country seems to have a different name for it, with a completely unrelated etymology.

Don't normalize stupidity and gratuitous belligerence.

In Australia Apple Maps and Google Maps show Lake Ontario.
