Meaningful names are critical for understanding. Without good names, it's incomprehensible, regardless of the complexity.

Exactly.

If you abstract things but don't give meaningful enough names, you loose everything (because your callers are still forced to lookup the definitions of your abstractions, and now this definition can be hard to search for).
